ANIMATING MADRID
Matadero Madrid and Cineteca approached us to work on
the Branding and Promotional Campaign for the first edition
of a new festival of contemporary animation, christened
Animario.
We took inspiration from the flickering images of the
early zoetropes and magic lanterns to create a logo that
is bold and dynamic that translates into a clean, crisp and
compelling design system.

ZOETROPICAL
Extending the inspiration of the flickering lights of the zoetrope used in the logo, we created a typographical design system. A bold, clean and dynamic system that feels animated even when still.
The campaign
REAL IMAGINATION
The tagline for the first edition of Animario “Imagainar lo real, Crear lo inimaginable” (Imagine the real, Create the unimaginable), was our starting point of our deep dive into the project.

Being the first edition of the festival, Matadero wanted to reflect this arrival, this ‘invasion’ of the city, in the promotional video. Taking cues from that, we created a narrative that combined this idea with the core concepts of transformation and animation.
